BTC, ETH, XRP and Flow Signals Shift Again

Lucas WrightLucas Wright—August 17, 2026

Crypto markets are holding steady after a choppy start to the week, with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP each pressing against familiar technical levels while ETF demand remains uneven. Bitcoin is still the clearest source of caution, while XRP continues to stand out on the flow side.

ETF Flows Paint a Mixed Picture

Fresh ETF data shows the latest session favoured Ethereum and XRP, even as Bitcoin saw money leave the sector. On 13 August 2026, Bitcoin spot ETFs posted net outflows of $131.13 million, Ethereum spot ETFs brought in $6.72 million, and XRP spot ETFs added $2.25 million.

That split matters because it shows capital is not moving as a single block. Instead, buyers are still selective, with Bitcoin facing pressure while altcoin products continue to attract pockets of demand.

  • Bitcoin ETFs: -$131.13 million on 13 August 2026
  • Ethereum ETFs: +$6.72 million on 13 August 2026
  • XRP ETFs: +$2.25 million on 13 August 2026

Bitcoin also logged an additional outflow day earlier in the week, with one report showing -$61.16 million on 12 August 2026.

Price Action Still Follows the Flow Story

Bitcoin is trading around $63,416, which leaves it below the short-, medium-, and long-term EMA stack. The 50-day EMA sits near $64,317, the 100-day EMA near $66,393, and the 200-day EMA near $72,390.

Momentum is still soft. The RSI is near 46, the MACD remains below zero, and exchange balances have risen sharply, which usually means more coins are available to sell. Santiment noted that exchange balances climbed to 18,000 BTC from 4,200 BTC in the prior week, a shift that weakens the accumulation case.

Coins sitting on exchanges are easier to sell, so a jump in exchange balances can signal more supply waiting to hit the market.

Bitcoin’s nearest hurdle is the $64,317 to $64,850 zone, while the first meaningful support sits near $61,291.

Ethereum Holds Up Better, XRP Keeps Its Parity Test

Ethereum looks steadier. ETH is trading around $1,894, above its 50-day EMA near $1,868 and above SuperTrend support near $1,769, but still below the 100-day EMA around $1,918. Its RSI near 53 is neutral to mildly constructive, although the MACD is still negative.

A clean close above $1,918 would improve the setup and open a path toward the 200-day EMA near $2,108. If ETH loses $1,868, the chart would look less healthy very quickly.

XRP remains the weakest of the three on price structure. It is trading at about $1.00, sitting below its moving averages and below the active SuperTrend line. The 50-day EMA is around $1.08, the 100-day EMA near $1.16, and the 200-day EMA near $1.35.

The RSI near 37 and a negative MACD both point to continued downside pressure. For bulls, the first step is simple: reclaim $1.01 and hold it.

  • Bitcoin: trend still capped, support near $61,291
  • Ethereum: stabilizing, but still needs $1,918 for a cleaner breakout
  • XRP: parity is the key line, with $1.01 the level to beat

The broader read is straightforward: the market has stopped falling in a straight line, but it has not turned decisively higher either. Bitcoin still needs stronger demand, Ethereum needs confirmation, and XRP needs a real technical reclaim before the ETF inflows start to matter more than the chart.
